What Northeast farms publish for beef shares and individual cuts.
26 farms publish enough information to compare a complete share rate: $5.25–$9.50 per hanging pound, with a sample median of $7.30. Individual cuts are recorded separately, per packaged pound.

Correction note · October 3, 2026: Shelterbelt Farm's own site says its beef is raised by a neighboring farm, which makes it a reseller under this report's rules, so it should not have been in the comparable-share sample. Without it, the sample is 25 farms with a median of $7.35 per hanging pound; the low ($5.25) and high ($9.50) are unchanged. The figures below preserve the original edition; use the current price comparison for corrected figures.
Three findings buyers can use
- A hanging-pound rate needs its processing terms. The share sample contains only offers with a stated share size, hanging or carcass weight and documented processing inclusion or an exact separate per-pound fee. Deposits and incomplete quotes stay out.
- The share bill depends on the animal’s weight. Multiply the seller’s expected hanging pounds by the complete rate, then add any separately quoted flat charges. A packaged-pound cut price uses a different weight; the two rates cannot show savings by themselves. See complete-bill examples.
- Published evidence is uneven. The snapshot has 818 qualifying cut listings from 91 farms. 32 cut categories have at least five reporting farms. Those are coverage counts, not a survey of all Northeast sellers.
Comparable share sources were checked between and . Qualifying cut source dates run from through . Individual rows retain their own check dates.

These figures summarize qualifying listings, so a farm with several qualifying offers can contribute more than one observation. Every displayed category has at least five reporting farms. The full cut CSV preserves membership, rate type, derivation, source and checked date.

Method, limitations and citation
This edition freezes approved public comparison fields, the included farms, source URLs and check dates. It is assembled from existing evidence, rather than a fresh re-verification or a quarterly market survey.
- Publication date is the date this approved-ledger snapshot was assembled, not a new farm-source check.
- Share comparisons require a stated share size, a hanging or carcass weight basis, and documented processing costs or explicit inclusion; resellers are excluded.
- Different share sizes remain separate offers. No farm offer is converted into a half or quarter share.
- Cut listings qualify only with an explicit per-pound rate or an exact fixed net weight. Variable-weight packages, deposits and approximate weights are excluded.
- Share statistics summarize one comparable rate per farm; cut statistics summarize listings and do not weight each farm equally.
- Coverage reflects collected evidence across six states, not market share, sales, current stock or a representative regional survey.
- Hanging pounds and packaged pounds are different units and their prices cannot be compared directly.
- Changes in sample membership can change medians without a seller changing a price. This edition does not establish a market trend.
- Confirm current price, availability, processing and fulfillment with the seller before ordering.
